Uganda: Mubiru gets 10 years for sodomy, ordered to compensate victim Shs50m

KAMPALA.

Buganda Road Court on Friday morning sentenced former Sports Club Villa manager, Christopher Mubiru to ten years in prison, also ordering him to compensate his sodomy victim with Shs50 million.

Presiding Chief Magistrate Flavia Nabakooza while passing her sentence observed that children all over the world are protected from harm.

Mubiru was on September 8 this year, found guilty of sodomising a then 17-year old youth Emmanuel Nyanzi who now says experiences pains while passing out human waste.
Before court could pass its sentence on Friday, magistrate Nabakooza asked the victim to have something to say before his tormentor could be sentenced as mandated by the sentencing guidelines.

Accordingly, the victim who was hooded to disguise his identity from the press, told court that Mubiru has since wasted his future as he dropped out of school given that his intestines occasionally pop out.
He added that he gets difficulty while passing out human waste.

“I heard from Mubiru’s lawyers during mitigation for being a first offender and a soul bread winner in his family. I have also heard from the victim who was by then 17 years old and about the pain that he get as a result of sodomy.” said Magistrate Nabakooza

She added: “children are protected all over the world. He has told court that he experiences pain since the incident. I accordingly, sentence him to ten years in prison and I also order him to compensate the victim with Shs50m…”

The magistrate went ahead to advise Mubiru to appeal her sentence if dissatisfied with it. Mubiru’s lawyers led by Isaac Ssemakkade expressed their dissatisfaction and said they will appeal the sentence in a higher court.

Court records showed that Mubiru and his victim (Nyanzi) met in 2009 at Mateos, a city restaurant along Parliamentary Avenue with Mubiru asking his prey to pay him a visit at his home.
His victim visited Mubiru at his home since he had been made homeless after being banished from home with also hope of finding him a job.

But Mubiru instead gave him a glass of wine that was laced with chloroform, a chemical that made him unconscious and sodomised him.
